The Spontaneum logo consists of a single vertical line inside a circle which has four points distributed about its circumference.  

The first interpretation regards the circle as the numeral zero ("0") and the single vertical line as the numeral one ("1").   Zero and one are the digits of a binary number system.   A binary number system is the conceptual basis of digital computers that make possible many of the services that enrich our lives.   Two obvious examples are the Internet and the World Wide Web.   Many forms of information content (e.g. text, images, audio, video) are now commonly stored, processed and transmitted in a digital form.   Consequently, many forms of communication are now reliant in part or in whole on digital technology.  

The second interpretation is derived from Pythagoras, the Greek philosopher and mathematician.   In geometry, Pythagoras observed that a single point generated dimension, as a one-dimensional line can be defined by two points, a two-dimensional plane by three points, and a three-dimensional space by four points.   Adding the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4 gives 10, which Pythagoras thought represented the known Universe.   Again, in the logo we may regard the circle as the numeral zero ("0") and the single vertical line as the numeral one ("1").   They can be re-arranged to represent the numeral ten ("10").   Pythagoras' four points are distributed about the circumference of the circle.  

The third interpretation refers to political philosophy.   In this case the circle represents society, while the single vertical line represents the individual.   Or, the circle can be taken to represent government, while the single vertical line represents a citizen.   The primary task of political philosophy is to determine the proper relationship between the individual and society or between government and citizen.  

I created this logo to symbolically link three important aspects of my life -
  - My career in Information Technology, which began in 1979
  - My great interest in, and study of philosophy
  - My passion for correcting the relationship between society and individual, between government and citizen.
